Stained Hourglass Escapes is seeking lovers of adventure and story to guide our award-winning experiences in downtown Salem, Massachusetts. Dedicated individuals with an attention for detail and a proactive mindset are encouraged to apply. Emphasis on the customer experience is key, and the ability to memorize complex processes (with training and support) is a must. Background in improv or theater is a plus.
Game Guide duties:
-Facilitate escape room experiences for private groups of customers with a high level of attention, from greeting and checking in, to guiding the game, to seeing them off when the game is over.
-Conduct sales of escape room bookings, including pitching the concept of an escape room to new players, both for walk-ins and over the phone.
-Maintain the cleanliness of the game spaces, control rooms, and public areas of the store.
-See and meet the need to switch quickly between any of the above duties.
-Be open to feedback to improve in your position and in the quality of the experience you deliver.
-Willingness to raise professional issues or concerns proactively and pleasantly.
Responsibilities/tasks:
-Customer service (including operating point of sale devices, using a digital booking platform, answering the phone, etc.)
-Game operation (including using a digital control platform, paying close attention to players to provide quick and helpful hinting as needed, and some light character acting)
-Basic facility maintenance (sweeping/vacuuming/mopping floors, trash removal, cleaning restrooms)
–Ability to use fine motor skills (turning keys, flipping small switches), to kneel and crouch frequently, to use a stepladder, and to go 1-1.5 hours without bathroom breaks.
Hours and Availability:
We are seeking applicants with availability for weekend daytime and/or evening hours (shifts approx. 10:30-3 or 4:30-9:00 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays). Availability for all weekends in October and the ability to commute through heavy traffic is required, local applicants preferred. This is a seasonal position extending through New Year’s 2027, with a higher concentration of hours (12-18+/wk) in October and around Christmas, and fewer hours (8-12/wk) in early December. There is potential for employment to extend to a permanent position, but no guarantees can be made.
Compensation: $16-18/hr
Hiring Timeline: We intend to fill the two available positions by mid-September.
